About the network
Who this is for, who keeps it and what happens when you join.
What it is
A global directory of women working in computational biology: students, postdocs, fellows, group leaders and people doing the same work in industry. One page each, written by the person it describes, searchable by institution, career stage, country and research interest.
It sits alongside the WiCB workshop. The workshop brings people together in person; the directory is what is there in between, so that finding a collaborator, a reviewer, a speaker or a second opinion does not depend on who happened to be in the room.
Who runs it
The WiCB steering group, the same people who run the workshop at wicb.co.uk. They decide what belongs in the directory and moderate it. The site itself is small and self-contained, and the whole directory can be handed over as one file if the group ever wants to keep it somewhere else.
How joining works
You can give us an ORCID iD and have the form filled in from your public record, or type it in yourself. Either way nothing is saved until you submit it, and nothing is published until you have clicked the link we email you, which is how we know the address is really yours. There are no passwords here: signing in later works the same way, by a link sent to that address.
Three things are needed: a name, an email address and where you are in your career. Everything else is optional and is there because it helps someone decide whether to write to you.
How review works
Once you have confirmed your email address your profile goes into the directory straight away, with no waiting. The steering group reads profiles afterwards and can ask for a change or take an entry down if it does not belong here. Anything the network publishes in its own voice, rather than in yours, still needs two people to agree before it appears.
What you control
Your entry stays yours. From your own dashboard you can edit it, hide your institution, hide your city and country, choose whether your email address is shown at all, take yourself out of the public directory, or remove the profile entirely. Your email address is never shown unless you ask for it to be. The data page sets out the rest.
